Naaresh vs Absylonia
Posted in : Battle Reports on by : Admin Jon
I know I should stick with one warlock, but I am flighty, what can I say… This week I looked at the previous army and did wonder whether the infantry lacked punch, so decided to try some ferox. To run them I wanted a defence buff since they are 20pts for the unit, that meant Naaresh or Makeda and Naaresh is painted 🙂 The beasts were largely picked with the aim of being able to take a charge under Naaresh’s feat, or kill multiple beasts if I feat offensively for a +5 armour (with agoniser) or +5 Str (with enrage) swing.
I then had 5 points left over so thought I’d see if a Flayer cannon was any good (spoilers.. it wasn’t)
I was up against Legion again, this time against Absylonia 2
Thoughts on game:-
The cannon isn’t worth taking unless I have some support for it, with 1 wound per model its removed trivially by any ranged attack, and with a range of 12 it’s too easy to kill before it gets a shot off.
- Naaresh is pretty fun
- Absylonia is almost a mirror match for naaresh.
- The forsaken is insane for 4 points pow8+6d6 damage on tiberion 🙁
- On the upside tiberion under feat can face tank a ravagore and a carnivean
- Murder cats are fun, running 16″ is cool, pouncing 13″ onto a caster is more fun , Also 3 cats did all but 7 boxes on a carnivean
- But MAT can be an issue as 2 cats failed to kill a forsaken 🙁 much to tibbers regret…
- Long leash on an archidon is also handy
He goes first and everything advances, Carnivean gets Bracer which is upkept for the match
I advance everything, put Blur on the cats, and Arcane Supression on myself (which are upkept for the game) Cats run up the flank
Deathstalkers kill a grunt off the flayer cannon, and a couple of beast handlers
Ravagores and Seraph shoot at Bronzeback and Tibbers and are largely ineffectual, they do a little damage to the agoniser with blasts.
I advance everything and get ready to face tank, I whip 5 blood tokens on Naaresh and Feat, Agonisers cries and beast handlers patch him up. Archidon flies over and eats the Deathstalkers
He charges in with all his beasts, Bronzeback take shots, then a charge from the scythean, and a Ravagore, then a Ravagore charged Tibbers and finishes off the Bronzeback with a stray claw, Tibbers takes the damage on the chin and then tanks a Carnivean taking damage, but losing no aspects.
3 Cats pounce the Carnivean and nearly kill it, then withdraw, then the remaining 2 cats pounce the Forsaken and miss both CMA’s 🙁 One cat moves around to try and pin the forsaken and Seraph. Beasthandlers heal and enrage Tibbers and the Gladiator, Tibbers kills the Carnivean with a single blow, then a Ravagore, then the Gladiator walks over and kills the other Ravagore leaving just a Scythean left as a melee beast, and beast handlers are in the way. I then reaslise he can slip stream the Forsaken to free it from the Ferox. Naaresh advances, tries to kill it with his Nuke, but misses by one due to the Forsaken being engaged. Then Cyclones away.
Absylonia kills a ferox, the Forsaken advances and does it’s burst killing Tibbers and wounding the Gladiator.
Assassination time, Naaresh is just in reach of Absylonia, but there is a shepherd in the way. The Cats pounce with 3 on Absylonia and 1 on the shepherd, the Shepherd dies giving Naaresh a charge lane, then the remaining 3 cats all roll the 7’s that they need to hit Absylonia and eating her, leaving Naaresh slightly despondent that he didn’t get to charge and kill her.
Win to Skorne Yay!! and first win of Mk3 🙂
